TransportationGalesburg is located in northwest central Illinois in Knox County, only 45 miles from both Peoria and the Quad Cities on I-74, and a three hour train ride from downtown Chicago via Amtrak. This central location allows residents to be able to access a variety of different cities with ease.

Served by major rail lines, as well as the Interstate Highway system, Galesburg has ready access to many major markets, including Chicago (183 miles), St. Louis (187 miles), Des Moines (212 miles) and Indianapolis (254 miles). Galesburg enjoys excellent passenger rail service, with two transcontinental Amtrak routes. Galesburg possesses an excellent municipal airport, with hangars and lighted runways capable of landing commercial, charter and private jet aircraft. An international airport is located in the Quad Cities, only 45 miles away. River ports are located 45 miles away in Peoria and the Quad Cities.

Galesburg is a transportation hub. The ability to transport goods in and out of Galesburg is one of the city’s most attractive assets. The second largest classification hump yard in the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) rail system is located in Galesburg.
